For eight years (2010-2017), the Edes Foundation Prize for Emerging Artists provided a significant annual cash award for a graduating senior, graduate student, or recent alumnus/a of each of four Chicago institutions– to be used by the awardee in any arts discipline in any way that enabled them to advance their professional career in the arts. The four participating Chicago institutions were The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, DePaul University, Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago.
Each school received a substantial stipend to distribute to a single artist or artist team as they saw fit, based on a selection process tailored to the school’s own criteria and standards. Every year produced a class of four Edes Awardees, who used that year to further their artistic practice at a crucial stage of development.
Though the award project has completed, the Foundation maintains an modest online archive of awardee’s work, in order to continue to recognize and support these artists.
